Artist's Comments

if you crit this, please critique the character design.

I know it's kind of weaselish, i was playing with shapes and idk somehow i reached for a bent back and a long neck :( i'm trying to be ~brave~ with designs but it is hard.

lol ok for whoever wanted a print

I'm guessing you were going more for a snow leopard than a weasel judging by the colorations and the description.
Snow leopards and other large cats have large broad faces and large paws, the face looks good but if you WERE in fact going for a snow leopard look the back is a tad to curved (it also needs to be an extension of the neck, meaning it slopes down not begins at the shoulders). Large cats have more of a flat sturdy back unlike a mustelidae that has a long neck and rather arched back. The back legs as well seem like they are to far back, meaning the body would be to long for the breed of cat you are looking to achieve.

However if you were going for a weasel look this is great! Nice combination :)

I like it, it's kind of hard to tell with the shading, but are you using two colors for the undercoat?
If you are (it kind of looks like it on the belly) I'd say get rid of it and average the two colors and use that new tone to replace both of them. The top part of the coat is great, I like the pattern, the spots are a nice size and placed nicely, and the colors harmonize. it's just that extra streak of beige-gray before the cream is kind of off putting.
Also, I notice you have a lot of hard edges in the design, you could approach the undercoat differently by having a smooth transition from the gray into cream. On the head I'm kind of confused as to how the patterning ends because the ear is in the way. Does it abruptly go from gray to tan? maybe you could do a smooth gradient so the transition isn't so jarring ?
This critique has more to do with the markings than the shape of the character, I'm not sure which you wanted more.
shape-wise it looks like a mix of big cat and mustelid, which I assume is what you were going for, so this is just stating the obvious.

I love the tail! It's a very appealing design, but hir ai go crit crit:
The small legs/paws make him look waaay too weezl; snow leopards (it is a snow leopard, rite??) kind of have GIANT paws, so the tiny paws are even more apparent.

It is really goood, though! I love his face. Sneaku~ n_n

Nice! It's good to see you experiment with body shapes, the arched back is awesome and creates a much more interesting silhouette. Although I'm going to have to agree with Kookamunga and say that the tiny paws are throwing me off a bit. But I definitely think you're on to something here. :)

I think the design is bold but still realistic at the same time.

It's really hard to get good design D:

I mean, on one hand this is very appealing, because weaselish shapes are just awesome. But it doesn't quite have enough "cat" vibe. Mostly, it's that the legs and paws are too small - cats have longer bodies than some people think, but they have decent-sized legs to set 'em off.

Also, that bend in the spine at the shoulders seems a little too sharp for a cat's body, unless it's one of the extreme running-style poses. Looks cool, but detracts from "cat."

The head is great overall, but again the high cheekfluff (snow leopards have boxy faces even for cats) and ear shape/positioning is very musteline. So is the relative neck length (though that probably is just in comparison to the small forelegs underneath)

So... adding weaselish characteristics to cats is not bad at all. They have a lot in common, and it's great to not just slavishly follow the way the real thing is built (my problem :P). It's just that there's so many here, it starts to look like a crossbreed. When I saw the thumbnail I was thinking "civet" for whatever reason. Then I zoomed in and saw a catface... and noticed the tail.

But as a straight design, I do like it. The coloring job is nice and simple too, and I like the way you handled the spots.
